Hike among the sandstone spires of the Palatine Forest and uncover two ancient castle ruins and spectacular viewpoints. At one point, you will come across a preserved section of a Gallo-Roman road that once traversed the mountain pass. This hike may be somewhat challenging, but it is worth the effort.

Hiking: Eußerthal Monastery and the Cliffs of Annweiler
This hike takes you from the more famous castle of Trifels in the opposite direction. You will head north to see the remnants of the imperial monastery of Eußerthal and the dramatic sandstone cliffs of the Palatine Forest.
Hiking: Wasgau Vineyards
This hike takes you through the small towns and villages at the base of the Wasgau Mountains, where the Rhine valley ends. Its a region known for its castles and vineyards, which are in ample supply on this trip.
Hiking: Knights of the Wasgau
The highlight of this hike is the castle of the Berwartstein, the mountain fortress of Hans von Trotha. He was a medieval local robber baron employed by the Electors of the Palatinate to raid and take the lands of the Alsacian monastery of Wissembourg. We will also see another cliffside castle, the Drachenfels Castle, and some of Germany's most spectacular scenery.
Hiking: Legend of the Waltharilied
This hike takes you to the location of the mythical battle between Walter and the Burgundians, the Castle of Wasgenstein, which does actually exist. Along the way, there is an incredible landscape of sandstone cliffs and dense forests.
