The Hochblauen mountain is the “Hausberg,” or the symbolic heights of the Markgräflerland region. From here, you get sweeping vistas of the surrounding landscape, a mixture of dense forestland, pastoral landscapes, and agricultural terraces. It’s a long way up, but the views are worth it.

• The hike starts in the town of Oberweiler, which is reachable by Bus and Train from Freiburg. It might be easier to drive here.
