Hiking: Knights of the Wasgau

The highlight of this hike is the castle of the Berwartstein, the mountain fortress of Hans von Trotha. He was a medieval local robber baron employed by the Electors of the Palatinate to raid and take the lands of the Alsacian monastery of Wissembourg. We will also see another cliffside castle, the Drachenfels Castle, and some of Germany’s most spectacular scenery.

How to Get Here:

  • The town is best reached by car, but can also be reached by train from Landau or by Bus from Dahn
  • The hike here starts at the train station in Budental-Rumbach
