The first famous scene is of Kaub with its two castles from the opposite side of the river. Then there is the panorama over Bacharach with its medieval spires and its dramatic vineyards.

In particular, the picture of the Castle Katz overlooking the cliffs of the Loreley is among the most iconic in Germany. The protagonist of this region's cuisine is the Rhine River. Barges from the North Sea would bring seafood and spices, and barges from the south would bring cloth and potatoes. The wealth of the Rhine led to a wealth of dishes in this region.
