Boiling wine with spices is a tradition throughout Europe and the world. This is a variant using apple wine from Frankfurt.

  • 1l Apple wine (You could substitute with a dry cider, or better, a dry white wine, and then add apples or calvados to the pot with the spices)

  • 1 Cinnamon stick

  • 2 Cloves

  • 4-5 Tbsp Sugar

  • Lemon slices for garnish

  • Heat the apple wine in a pot, but try not to boil it
  • Add the spices and sugar and keep warm, almost boiling, for about 5 minutes
  • Taste, and add more sugar if desired. This recipe will taste more strongly like wine, so quite a bit of additional sugar may be desired
  • In each glass, put a lemon slice at the bottom and pour the Glühwein into the glass
